Synchronous e-learning tools (bibtex)
by Juan Carlos Granda, Pelayo Nuño, Francisco José Suárez and Daniel Fernando García
Abstract:
Synchronous e-learning is a very successful learning modality which offers a wide variety of features enabling real-time interactions among learners and with instructors. These interactions are supported by modern networks and emulate the real-time interactions of face-to-face traditional learning. This chapter introduces the basic features of synchronous e-learning tools. The most prominent synchronous e-learning tools are analyzed, concluding that most tools include audio and videoconferencing, document sharing and instant messaging features. Other features such as dynamic polls or the capability to divide learners into groups are less common. Hardware solutions for synchronous e-learning and collaboration, and virtual immersive environments are also described. 2013 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc. All rights reserved.
